We are looking for a highly motivated Genomic Applications Bioinformatics Manager, leading a team initially of 2 bioinformaticians in the Genomic Applications NYC office.

The successful candidate will be a skilled and experienced bioinformatician who has experimental design capability, theoretical knowledge of biological systems, and extensive practical experience of NGS data analysis. The successful candidate will be excited about Oxford Nanopore’s technology, will be familiar with our customers’ publications and will be adept at thinking of new potential applications of the technology. They will have worked as part of a multi-disciplinary team and will be familiar with whole experimental cycle from sample collection through to high-quality publication.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing bespoke end-to-end analysis and general-purpose bioinformatics pipelines for internal support use, and external customers. The candidate will work closely with ONT’s Applications, Research, and Development teams to ensure that internal bioinformatics knowledge and tools are translated to readily available analysis pipelines. A broad knowledge of sequencing applications, and the ambition to use sequencing technologies creatively to answer important biological questions are essential.
The Bioinformatics Manager will thrive and lead in three different areas:
- Project Manager; defines projects based on internal & external customer needs and technical feasibility, defines the scope and output of bespoke data analysis and general-purpose bioinformatics pipelines, sets goals and deadlines for the team and ensures those are met, and gathers the needed resources.
- Bioinformatician; translates customer requirements to bioinformatics analysis and reusable pipelines, knows the correct tools for each step and how to translates their output to interpretable results.
- Software engineer; algorithms and requirements for efficient implementation, knowledge of software development processes like code review and continuous integration, knowledge of cloud infrastructure, and platform independent deployment of workflows.

They will be self-motivated, positive and enthusiastic. The successful applicant will have the communication skills and robustness to engage effectively with multi-disciplinary teams within the Company and with customers and collaborators. They will possess the leadership skills to run a team with a high degree of independence, and the presence to instil the company culture into the team.
